I’ve only briefly addressed wine and chocolate pairings, but it’s a topic that comes up frequently both in my wine conversations and on my chocolate tours. Many people don’t realize that it’s actually difficult to match wine and chocolate. The idea of eating two such wonderful things together is just so romantic, but if you don’t match them just right, both the wine and the chocolate will taste offensive.
Which is why I was so excited to read that Crushpad is teaming up with some local chocolatiers to make a wine that will pair perfectly with dark chocolate. Check it out. Tickets include a bottle of the finished “Chocolate Seizure” wine.
I wonder, do the most chocolate-friendly wines show hints of chocolate? Does chocolate with certain flavor characteristics pair better with wine with the same characteristics?
If you’re impatient or unable to make it to Crushpad, a very nice–and much easier–pairing alternative is cheese and chocolate. Seriously, give it a try!
