Amidst the endless debating, debacles, and the super duper dissing, it’s easy to forget that even politicians must eat.
I therefore urge you to read this fun little piece I’ve written for CHOW.com. It probably won’t help you decide who to vote for, but you might learn something you never knew about our hungriest presidents. Bon appétit!

Very clever (and as always well-written), Syrah. Next up les candidates? And are you well informed! Chester Arthur was a president? I must have missed eighth-grade civics.
Thanks, Jessica!
Yes, Chester Arthur was indeed president. He gets bonus food points for mutton chops.
Indeed (lol). What are mutton chops, precisely? I don’t mean the ones on the face. I’m not clear on what mutton is.
Mutton is sheep (mature lamb). It tends to be rather tough, so it’s usually cooked very slowly in liquid to tenderize. The resulting meat is very rich. It’s not popular in the US — moreso in Britain, though it declined in popularity there after WWII. A few years ago, the Prince of Wales tried to bring it back. Not sure how that went over…
Indeed, it was the only meat I can remember eating while at Oxford. I remember a student from the north of England talking about how much meat we got at our college as compared with her home. I can smell it just writing this. And you know that twinge when you think of something slightly sad that someone said years ago? I’m having that now too. I felt so bad for her.
